Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has been rushed to the hospital following a car accident during the filming of an episode of the BBC show, Top Gear. The car crash took place on Monday at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey. However, the injuries are not life-threatening as reported by the English media in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident.
The former mercurial English cricketer retired from the game in 2010 and has been a regular on television reality shows since then. He joined the renowned BBC sports show Top Gear as a host in 2019. Flintoff was involved in an accident at one of the shows’ Test tracks and needed the immediate attention of the medics traveling with the crew on Monday.
“Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course,” the BBC said in a statement.
In another report by the Sun, the ex-cricketers’ injuries are thought to be ‘not-life threatening’ as the crew followed all the health and safety measures while filming. Flintoff wasn’t driving at a high speed either, helping him escape fatal injuries.
“All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too. Freddie was taken to the hospital by air ambulance shortly afterward. Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering,” a source told The Sun.
The Englishman was involved in another accident in 2019 as he survived a 125mph crash during the filming of another episode of the renowned television show.
“I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag races but, on this occasion, I went a few lengths too far. It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV,” Flintoff said after his mishap in 2019.
