England’s latest spin prodigy on the scene Rehan Ahmed penned a heartfelt note to her mother after his impressive Test debut for the Three Lions that helped them in winning the third Test in Karachi and sweeping the three-match series 3-0.
Rehan was instrumental in helping the Ben Stokes-led side restrict Pakistan to just 216 runs in the second innings. He bagged a historic five-wicket haul in the second innings of the Test at the National Stadium and became the youngest player ever to bag a Test match fifer on debut in the men’s circuit.
After finishing on the winning side, Rehan put out a tweet saying, “I can’t put into words how I feel. Without my mothers prayers, I would never have got to this stage.
I’m forever grateful to my mum, who unfortunately wasn’t able to be here with me. However, her prayers are always with me regardless.”

He netted plenty of big names in the second innings including skipper Babar Azam, and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. Rehan was a part of the England U19 World Cup team that lost to Yash Dhull’s India in the final of the U19 World Cup 2022 played earlier this year.
He has also signed up for the upcoming IPL mini-auction slated to be conducted on Friday, December 23 in Kochi and has kept his base price INR 40 lakhs. England’s red-ball head coach Brendon McCullum wants Rehan to gain some exposure while playing in the IPL as McCullum believes that it will end up benefitting the young leg spinner.
“It would be great. It would be awesome if he did. I’ve been involved with the IPL a couple of times so sometimes it works out for guys and sometimes it doesn’t. Why not? Why not get an opportunity to go and play under different coaches and different captains and rub shoulders with different players and pick up those experiences?
What 18-year-old kid anywhere else in world cricket is going to get those chances? I think we should encourage it,” McCullum told BBC Test Match Special.
